For content and SEO teams

Turn prompt and citation gaps into a roadmap

You already know how to make a page rank. The harder question is which page changes an answer. TrackGeo finds the prompts you lose and the sources you are missing from, ranks the work by what it is worth, then re-scans to check the work landed.

The shift

The citation is the new position

When a model answers a buyer question, it reads a handful of sources and writes a paragraph. Being on page one of a search result does not guarantee you are one of the sources it read.

Sources, not links

Every cited source is recorded with the engine that used it, its position in the answer, and whether it is editorial, a review, a community thread, or owned by you.

Domains you do not control

A large share of what shapes an answer is third-party. The roadmap has to include the sources that speak about you, not only the pages you own.

Evidence, not vibes

Each gap arrives with the answer text, the cited sources and a confidence level, so a content brief starts from what the model actually said.

The gaps

Two questions worth answering before you write

A roadmap is only as good as the diagnosis behind it. TrackGeo answers both halves — the prompts you are absent from, and the sources that absence comes from.

Prompt gaps

Which questions do we lose

Every prompt is scored for buyer value and marked as a win, a loss, or a prompt a competitor owns. Filter straight to the high-value prompts you are losing and you have your brief queue, ordered by what it is worth rather than by search volume.

Citation gaps

Which sources leave us out

TrackGeo maps the domains cited across your category and splits them by mix — trusted, community, social, owned and other — then surfaces the opportunity gaps: sources cited for your rivals with no coverage of your brand yet.

Illustrative

Source overlap

For a losing prompt, TrackGeo compares the sources behind your mentions with the sources behind a rival, and shows what is shared and what is theirs alone. The domains that are only theirs are the shortest route to changing the answer.

Your roadmap

A shape, not a customer result. Real overlap is expressed as a percentage with the domains listed.

The roadmap

Typed work, ranked by what it is worth

Gaps become actions, and actions have a type. That keeps the roadmap honest about the fact that not every AI visibility problem is solved by writing another article.

Content

A page, section or answer that does not exist yet, or exists and is not being read by the models.

Schema

Structured data that helps a model parse what you are and what you claim, rather than guessing.

Technical

The mechanics of being retrievable at all, including how AI crawlers actually reach your site.

Source

A third-party domain the engines already cite for your category, where you have no presence.

Forum

Community threads that models lean on heavily, and where an absent brand is an invisible one.

Sentiment

A negative or outdated claim about you that keeps resurfacing in answers and needs correcting at the source.

Each action is scored out of 100 from business impact, visibility opportunity, competitive gap, ease and confidence — with the weights published in the product, so a prioritisation can be argued with rather than taken on faith. See how actions work.

Closing the loop

Shipped is not the same as worked

Most content roadmaps end at published. This one ends at verified: after the work lands, the prompt is re-scanned, and the action is only marked impact verified if the measurement actually moved.

  1. New
  2. Accepted
  3. In progress
  4. Implemented
  5. Monitoring
  6. Re-scan needed
  7. Impact verified

A gap sprint you can hand to a writer

The gap sprint report pulls it together for a single window: the high-value prompts you lose, the winner and why they win for each, where AI cites competitors, your brand content gaps, a prioritised action backlog, the confidence and methodology behind it, and a next 30-day plan. Export it as CSV, HTML or PDF.

Questions

What content and SEO teams ask first

How is this different from tracking keyword rankings?

A ranking tells you where a page sits in a list of links. An AI answer is composed rather than ranked: the model selects sources, synthesises a paragraph and names a few products. TrackGeo measures that instead — whether you are mentioned, which sources were cited to build the answer, and which domains get cited for your rivals but never for you.

What is a citation gap?

A domain the engines cite when answering your category, where rivals show up and you do not. TrackGeo maps the domains behind the answers, marks each as owned or rival, and surfaces the sources cited for competitors with no coverage of your brand yet. Citation-gap analysis is metered by credits and only runs when you ask for it.

What kind of work does it actually recommend?

Actions are typed — content, schema, technical, source, forum and sentiment — so the roadmap is not simply a list of blog posts. Each action carries a priority score out of 100, weighted from business impact at 35 percent, visibility opportunity at 25, competitive gap at 20, and ease and confidence at 10 each.

Can we prove the work moved anything?

That is what the lifecycle is for. An action goes from implemented to monitoring, the prompt is re-scanned, and it is only marked impact verified when the measurement actually moved. Nothing counts as a win because someone shipped a page.

Do you look at our site as well as the answers?

Yes. Alongside answer measurement there is a GEO audit that checks your content for AI-friendliness, and crawler analytics showing how AI bots reach your site. The audit is available on paid plans.

How do you know a gap is real and not a one-off answer?

Prompts are sampled repeatedly across engines rather than read once, and each finding carries a confidence level and the number of runs behind it. Model outputs vary between runs, so a single answer is an anecdote — the roadmap is built from the pattern, not the anecdote.
